Keep it harsh-harsh on the train
“…moving forward, I’d like to set some house rules. Visitors are not allowed in the house, including your brother. Also, remove your shoes when you are in the house. Thanks. If you think I am too restrictive…”
She fumbled with her text message on the train for over 20 minutes. By the time I had to alight at my stop, she continued to ponder what to type next just to bring down the tone by a notch.
I learned something today: If it’s going to be difficult, say it in person. It is so much easier and so much more respectful to deliver news in person than trying to think how the other person would respond when he reads a message (and gets it completely wrong).
Not allowing family to visit is harsh. But hey, who am I to judge without knowing the situation? Besides, I really should not be looking at someone’s mobile screen… (Shame on me!)
